In June 2020, the Fogarty International Center (FIC), with funding support from the Office of AIDS Research at the National Institutes of Health, invited administrative supplement applications from the funded HIV research training grants. The purpose of the initiative was to develop institutional infrastructure capabilities and sustainable policies to address sexual misconduct and harassment, and to provide a safe work environment at the respective institutions.
Ten applications were selected through our review process and received the awards in September 2020. The first FIC Sexual Harassment Supplement Network Meeting was held on November 19, 2020. The goal of that meeting was to exchange ideas, information, and best practices for developing and implementing guidelines and policies to address sexual misconduct and harassment at the various institutions. All of the applicants and awardees were invited to attend that meeting and to work together to help develop an institution wide policy. FIC issued one award per institution with the understanding that the awardee and the institution leadership will engage all NIH awarded grantees and colleagues to provide input into the development of the policy and training to address sexual harassment.
The second FIC Sexual Harassment Supplement Network Meeting will provide the opportunity for all awardees to present their completed supplement projects and the institutional policy and training materials they have developed.
