General Information
The Fogarty International Bioethics Training Program supports education and research training to develop ethics expertise in low- and middle-income countries (LMIC). The programs complement other global health research and research training programs in the mission areas of the NIH Institutes and Centers.
The R25 International Research Ethics Education and Curriculum Development Award supports curriculum development for master's level courses; courses for skill development, including practicum experiences; and mentoring activities. The D43 International Bioehtics Research Training Program supports LMIC-US collaborative institutional bioethics doctoral and postdoctoral research training programs that incorporate didactic, mentored research, and career development components to prepare trainees for positions of scholarship and leadership at health research institutions in LMICs.
Currently, there are approximately 30 programs. Descriptions for each of these programs can be found here.
This annual network meeting will be held in a hybrid format (see logistics for details). The sessions will include brief introductory talks highlighting an element in your training program that has worked (for new programs, that you expect will work) exceptionally well that you would like to share with the other Principal Investigators in attendance; specific research training issues such as distance learning, trainee degree completion, mentorship, etc.; informational sessions by representatives from FIC grants management, WHO, PAHO, NIH Department of Bioethics and other NIH partners (NIAID, NHGRI, NICHD); and regional breakout groups to share information and discuss possible collaborations.
